Our class participated in the Scholastic Live Webcast with Taylor Swift this week.  We even submitted a question.  It was fun to hear about the books that she liked as a child and about the steps she takes in the writing process.  We hope to be involved with more opportunities like this in the future.

Ask your child about...how the words, instead, but and although can change the meaning of a word in a sentence, line plots and bar graphs, story endings that we are NOT going to use anymore and our great extended endings, the voting process, homophones there, their and they're, the founding of our country and The Declaration of Independence.

Thank you for coming to our parent/teacher conference.  Our face to face time to discuss your child is extremely valuable.  If you desire an additional conference please let me know and we will schedule something soon.

Fall Party will be Wednesday, October 31. You should have received an email from Mrs. Murray about sending donations for this event.  Thank you for all you do!

Remember! No School Friday, October 26.

Andy Taylor even helped us learn about the founding of our country.  Enjoy!

Field Trip Success!  Wow, What a Day!  We...ran, hollered, looked for gold, had a Hatfield/McCoy feud, made "finger candles", shot a bow and arrow, threw a tomahawk, ran some more, had a tug of war, slid down a three story slide, hollered some more, visited an Indian village, rode in a cattle wagon, sailed down a zip line, ran, looked for Runnin Roger's marbles, watched Mountain Man Les make an arrowhead, hollered, crawled through the mouse house, learned a rain dance, heard many stories, beat on a drum, and so much more.  Ask your child about all of it.  Check out the video below.

M & M's make everything better, even math.  Ask your child about making our pictographs with M&M's.  Other activities this week included... making "maaaavelous" middles in writing (ask your child about the picture of the cool, awesome dog), the end of Ruby Holler , making words with the ou and ow sound, recreating the water cycle and so much more.

Thank you for sending in the field trip permission slips and money.  We are looking forward to a crisp, sunny, autumn day for the frontier theater.  Please dress your children in tennis shoes and send a jacket.  We hope to leave the school as close to 8:45 as possible.  We will leave Marshfield around 1:00 expecting to arrive back at Willard East at 2:00.  As the school handbook states, students must ride the bus to the field trip, but if you would like to sign your child out, they may ride home with you from Marshfield.  Please do not take your child until you have signed out with the teacher.  Students will be counted absent from the time you sign them out.

Thank you for signing up for a parent/teacher conference time.  Conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 23 and Thursday, October 25.  The link below will take you to a google spreadsheet to sign up for a time if you still need one.  I'm hoping to meet with every family.  Conferences will last approximately 15 minutes.  If we see that more time is needed we will schedule a follow up appointment for the next week.

Congratulations to our new class student council representatives!  Mr. Parker and Miss Sidney will represent our class well at all of the upcoming student council functions!

You can find more pictures of our community pop up books in the photo gallery.

One More Thing....I found a you tube video of the "tion" song from The Electric Company so that all of you that are younger than I am will know what I'm talking about.  Enjoy!

Gracie (subtraction across zero)

Sidney (subtracting with regrouping)

Max (addition with regrouping)
