We have 4 days of testing under our belts and only have 2 more to go.  I have been so proud of your children from the "can do" attitudes to their great work ethic.  I think they have been pleasantly surprised by the ease of the testing process too.

Upcoming events:  Friday, May 3 we will walk to the high school to watch a theater performance.  The weather is supposed to be much cooler so please encourage your child to bring a jacket and dress appropriately.  Also, Friday afternoon is our annual LIVING MUSEUM to highlight all of the work put into our famous scientist and inventor projects.  Your child will be "on display" in our classroom and the projects will be available to see in the hall.  As noted in a past blog post, the children do not have to spend money to dress the part of their character. It can be as simple as a single prop they hold or you may go all out with a costume and accessories.  We hope you can make it on Friday.  I will also post pictures of the event on the blog.

Field Day Will Be Wednesday, May 8.  Your child may need/want sunscreen and a change of clothes (sometimes we get wet).  Tennis shoes only PLEASE!  We also will be eating a sack lunch.  Your child may bring a sack lunch from home or purchase a school sack lunch as that will be their only lunch choice that day.

We have had the privilege of having Ms. Christina Gordon in our classroom for her field experience work and her student teaching.  Ms. Gordon is a senior at Southwest Baptist University and will be graduating in May.  Her last day with us will be Wednesday, May 8
As a way of saying thank you for all she has done and to send her off to her own classroom well prepared, we are creating a "teacher basket" full of classroom necessities like pens, clips, note pads, Tylenol :), gift cards, etc.  If you would like to contribute to the basket please send your contribution by Tuesday, May 7.  I will have a secret box for the donations under my teacher desk.  THANK YOU!!

Bring It On!  That has been the motto in our class for the past month.  We are so ready for the MAP test and want the opportunity to SHOW WHAT WE KNOW!  I know that you already know all of these tips, but it wouldn't seem like the Friday before testing if I didn't share them with you again...A little bit of encouragement from you can go a loooong way in the following areas...plenty of rest, a healthy breakfast, and a "you can do it" attitude.  We spent some time this week taking down all the anchor charts and content specific material from the walls while we did a quick review over each.  We are also sitting in rows instead of groups for testing.  I think the kids like this since it's not something they typically do.  :)
Testing will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week and the week of April 30.  Testing will primarily be in the morning and a healthy snack will be provided during a mid morning break.  You do not need to send any snacks from home.  Lunch and recess will be at our regular times.  Special classes and library will be at different times to accommodate testing.  We are ready.  So, again....BRING IT ON!

Ask your child about... finishing our final copies of our famous scientist/inventor reports, using our google apps log in, starting our scientist/inventor name plates,  researching the state or country that our person is from, letters to the WWII veterans, estimation, and our last spelling test of the year.

This Friday is our next costumes for community service day.  Students are encouraged to bring $1 and come dressed as their favorite teacher.  What? Yep, dress like the teachers.

Students need to bring an adult sized plastic hanger to school for the scientist/inventor displays we are making.  Thank you!

Friday evening will be our whole school spring concert.  The performance will begin at 7:00 in the Willard High School gymnasium.  Students may arrive no earlier than 6:40 and are encouraged to wear their W.E. Friday t-shirts.  Hope to see you there!

MAP testing will be April 23, 24, 25 and April 30, May 1, and 2.
Friday, May 3 the students will walk to the Willard H.S. to watch a play.

May 3 will also be our annual "living museum" day to wrap up our famous scientist and inventor projects.  Students may bring a costume or props as visual aides but this is not required and completely up to the family. Students will be given time to get ready after recess at 2:30.  Family and friends are invited to arrive around 3:00 to see the displays and interact with the museum.  This event will last approximately 30 minutes and students may leave with their parents after checking out with their teacher.

Ask your child about making the above video and...faces, vertices, and edges, review over figurative language (idioms, similes, metaphors, alliteration and onomatopoeia), fact finding for our famous scientist/inventors, Kidblog with Patricia Polacco, and our review over comprehension strategies including inferring and main ideas with details.

Hopefully by now you have heard your child talk about the Famous Scientist and Inventor Projects that our third grade classes have started.  This is an annual event that you may have seen in the past.  Students are actively involved in library, computer lab, art and in our own class during writing and science to make this project a fun learning experience.  Our culminating activity will be on Friday, May 5.  This is when you will be invited to attend our "living museum" to see the past come to life and view our amazing projects that will be hanging in the hall.  Students will become their research as they portray their famous person or a relative of that person.  ( A girl researching Benjamin Franklin may want to pretend that she is his sister or mother.) This can be as elaborate or simple as you desire.  When my daughter did a similar project, she researched Jane Goodall and simply held a stuffed monkey as a prop.  Students will be given plenty of time to do research in class.  But, if you would like to enhance the project, feel free to do more research at home or at the local library.

Spring Concert will be on Friday, April 12 at 7:00 pm.  All students in K-4 will be involved on this one night.  The concert will be held in the Willard High School gymnasium.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you for collecting donations for our annual read-a-thon.  Thank you for encouraging your child to read for the read-a-thon reading minutes challenge.  Thank you for coming to the family literacy night.  Thank you for being an active partner with me in your child's education.
