Thank you again for sending in the donations of crackers, cookies, hats, underwear, socks, gloves, and pencils.  You are amazing!

Our first "costumes for community service" day will be this Friday.  Our theme is western wear.  Students can wear their western clothes, cowboy hats and boots.  A $1 donation is requested with each of our "costume" days.

I hope that I haven't given the impression that we are not having a Christmas party this year.  YES, WE ARE:)! It is an all day (or all 1/2 day) event where we will celebrate by wearing our p.j.s and slippers and enjoying a lot of good books.  We have a few guest readers planned and we may watch some small snip its from some great holiday books that were turned into movies. With this being such a long affair, I don't have any specific times for anything.  Thank you for the hot cocoa, candy canes, marshmallows, cookies, spoons, etc.

Spelling test #17 and the Science space test will be on Thursday, December 20.

Keep sending in those donations of cookies and crackers for the Willard East Christmas food drive.  We will be collecting through Friday, December 14.
Our tree of H.U.G.S. is looking great.  We will still be accepting donations of hats, underwear, gloves, and socks through Friday also.
Our class has completely run out of pencils.  I have cleaned out my "junk drawer" at home and brought in every shape and size of pencil that I can find.  If you are doing some holiday cleaning and run across any pencils that you want rid of, we will take them!
Our annual third grade read- in will be Friday, December 21.  Children are encouraged to wear their p.j.'s and slippers and be ready to read, read, and read some more.  We will be celebrating with hot cocoa, donuts, and candy canes.  Several of you have signed up to send items for the party through our "volunteer spot" link.  We are still needing hot cocoa mix for 20 students, candy canes and 2 dozen donuts.  Thank you!

Academic Highlights for the Week:   We will be starting our benchmark reading assessments for 2nd quarter grade cards.  We are also doing our on demand writing for our 2nd quarter writing prompt.  In math we continue to use addition/subtraction strategies for three digit numbers as well as using estimation to see if our answers are reasonable.  Our "Galactic Travel Passports" are filling up with exciting information about our solar system.  Weekly at-home reading and weekly spelling lists will continue this week and next.
